1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how PEEL (“PEEL”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the PEEL mobile app and our website.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Account details: email address (and, if used, campus or eligibility information).
  • Profile content: prompts, interests/tags (for example courses/clubs), bio text, and preferences (Friends mode / Dating mode).
  • Media: profile photos (blurred by default) and a short voice note (for example a ~10-second intro).
  • Messages: chat messages and related metadata (timestamps, match status).
  • Support & safety: reports, blocks, and any text you submit through the Report form.

2.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Device & app data: device identifiers, app version, crash logs, and basic diagnostics.
  • Network data: IP address and approximate location derived from it (for security and fraud prevention).
  • Push notification tokens: used to deliver notifications (if you enable them).

2.3 Location information

PEEL is designed to avoid sharing precise location. If location is shown, it is typically a coarse label (for example “on campus”) rather than an exact distance.

3. How we use information

  • Provide the service: create accounts, show profiles, enable matching, and deliver chat.
  • Photo reveal: manage the blur/reveal experience based on in-app actions (for example mutual interest and/or an agreed reveal).
  • Personalization: rank content using signals like shared tags/courses, recency, and usage patterns.
  • Safety & integrity: prevent spam, detect abuse, enforce rules, and review reports (including auto-hiding content when warranted).
  • Communications: send service messages (for example verification, updates, and notifications).
  • Improve PEEL: debug issues, analyze performance, and develop new features.

4. How we share information

4.1 With other users

Information visible to others depends on what you choose to share. At minimum, your prompts/tags and voice note may be displayed to support “vibe-first” matching. Profile photos may appear blurred until a reveal condition is met. Your chat messages are visible to the person you message.

4.2 With service providers

We may use third-party providers to host and operate PEEL (for example cloud hosting, databases, analytics, crash reporting, and push notifications). These providers process information on our behalf and under instructions consistent with this policy.

4.3 For legal and safety reasons

We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect users, or prevent fraud and abuse.

4.4 Business transfers

If PEEL is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Optional features

5.1 Coach mode (optional)

If you opt in, PEEL may analyze your profile content (for example prompt answers or photo quality cues) to suggest improvements like better lighting, clearer crops, or more specific prompts. You can turn this feature off at any time.

5.2 Premium features

If you purchase a subscription or in-app purchase, payments are processed by the app store (Google Play / Apple). We do not receive your full payment card details.

6. Data retention

We keep information as long as needed to operate PEEL and for legitimate business purposes (like safety, dispute resolution, and compliance). If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your information where practical; some limited data (for example security logs) may be retained for a longer period.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Access & update: you can edit many profile fields in-app.
  • Delete: you can request account deletion in-app (or by contacting us).
  • Notifications: you can control push notifications in your device settings.
  • Block/report: you can block or report users to help keep the community safe.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children’s privacy

PEEL is not intended for children under 13. Dating mode is intended for adults (18+). If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

10. International users

If you use PEEL from outside the country where our servers are located, your information may be processed and stored in other countries. We take steps designed to protect your data in accordance with this policy.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date and, if changes are material, we will provide additional notice in-app or on our website.
